AECP has been invited to assist in the formulation of new legislation in NSW protecting the title ‘paramedic’. At present anyone can call themselves a paramedic regardless of qualification or experience. The new legislation aims to provide a protection to those holding paramedic qualifications and to those employing them and to prevent misrepresentation within the industry.
The legislation currently being drafted will enable the future establishment of a Paramedic Registration Board so that paramedics can be deregistered for negligence and will also impose a legal obligation on paramedics to undertake CPD.
People working in industries other than ambulance will be eligible to hold the title.
Further details will appear in the next newsletter.
